The World Bank has reclassified Sri Lanka as an upper-middle-income economy, effective July 1, restoring the category four years after the country's 2022 economic crisis. The World Bank said Sri Lanka's real GDP grew 5 percent in 2025, driven by recovery across industry, manufacturing, financial services and tourism.
