The volume of the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) has decreased to a minimum level since April 2024 due to the conflict with Iran. At the end of last week, the US Department of Energy reported that oil and petroleum product reserves in the SPR currently stand at 1.584 billion barrels and continue to decline. The last time oil reserves in US strategic storage were below 1.5 billion barrels was in March 2003. S&P Global Energy notes that due to disrupted traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the global oil market has lost 1.2 billion barrels of oil.
