Palestinian technocratic committee says ready to govern Gaza after reported Hamas disarmament pact. Hamas tells mediators it approved a final draft roadmap for ceasefire phase two, with weapons to be registered under the new body.
The 15-member transitional Palestinian technocratic committee for administering the Gaza Strip (NCAG) affirmed on Friday its 'full readiness' to assume responsibilities following a reported Hamas disarmament pact. The committee said it has completed extensive institutional and operational preparations to take over administration, restore public services, strengthen rule of law, facilitate humanitarian aid, and lead reconstruction. On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump said the 'Board of Peace' had reached an agreement for the 'complete disarmament' of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. On Friday, Palestinian sources told Xinhua that Hamas informed mediators of its approval of the final draft of a roadmap for the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire. Ghazi Hamad, a member of Hamas' negotiating delegation, said Hamas and other factions have reached an understanding on a mechanism for the second phase, including gradual registration and storage of weapons under NCAG supervision. Hamad rejected descriptions of the arrangement as disarmament, saying weapons remain linked to Israeli withdrawal and reconstruction.
