Former Russian Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Denis Butsaev requested to be arrested in absentia on fraud charges related to 2019 waste reform.

Former Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Denis Butsaev was requested to be arrested in absentia on a fraud case in Moscow's Tver District Court (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code). The request was registered on May 13, but the case card appeared on the website only on the night of May 14. It is unknown whether the hearing has already taken place and when. According to Kommersant, the fraud charges relate to the 'waste reform' initiated in 2019. Butsaev previously headed the 'Russian Ecological Operator' company, created to coordinate efforts during the 'waste reform'. Butsaev fled to the USA and was put on the wanted list. According to Faridaily, he left Russia on April 18 after receiving a 'warning' about the 'threat of a criminal case amid a wave of repression against the elite'.
