Finland has successfully removed about 60,000 liters of oil from the wreck of the World War II coastal defense ship Ilmarinen, according to a Finnish Ministry of the Environment press release published on Friday. The July 14-24 operation was led jointly by the Finnish Finnish Environment Institute and the Finnish Navy, with about 40,000 liters of oil remaining in the wreck and recovery expected to continue in 2027.
