A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Tonga Islands at 1641 GMT on Sunday, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences reported. The epicenter, at a depth of 10 km, was initially determined to be at 16.99 degrees south latitude and 173.46 degrees west longitude.
